[Continuing semi-live bogging with unedited notes.]
Colts/Ravens. 2nd 3:15 - So far, I've really only been keeping half an eye on the game; my impression is basically a lot of field goals. That last one was a doozy, though...51-yard attempt by Vinatieri of the Colts, and it just barely hits the crossbar and bounces through. Hilarious. :) Halftime: Damn, what a catch by Moorehead! Pity it didn't count. But still. Anyway, it occurs to me now to wonder if Peyton Manning has shaken his traditional postseason slump. Final: Decent game. Lots of interceptions, no touchdowns, though, so...definitely a different kind of excitement. :)
Eagles/Saints. Halftime - Well, like last week, the Eagles took a little while to get started, but once they get started, look out! Quite pleased that they got the TD on the final drive before the half; they worked hard for that. Once again, I find myself rooting against my own system just for emotional satisfaction. :) And, as I must, I give props to the Saints for these four little words: fake punt, first down. :) 4th 3:18 - Brees fails to connect backwards to Reggie Bush, and we've got the first turnover of the game. And what a crucial turnover...Eagles down by 3. Can they capitalize? 4th 1:56 - Well, it appears not. :) Oh, well; at least it was an exciting turn of events. Wow...I speak too soon. They go to convert on 4th and 10...and they DO IT with a hell of a completion. Oh, but wait...false start; now it's 4th and 15. Un...fortunate. Punt instead. Oh, well; at least it was a more exciting turn of events. :) Final: But...possession goes back to the Saints, and no more miracles occur. Good try, Eagles, and good season! Better luck next year. Congrats, Saints; go Mascot Fights! ;)
Seahawks/Bears. Halftime: Not much to say about this game, really. This is the kind of high-powered offense/high-scoring exchange I expected out of Eagles/Saints, frankly, but both teams are off to an early strong start in this game, instead. Fun to watch, but not a lot of commentary to be made. End 3rd/Start 4th - So the Bears have the ball and are right on Seattle's doorstep, but defense manages to hold them to a field goal, which would tie the game. Kick is good...but wait! Before the snap, a defensive lineman fouls trying to lure someone into a false start. Not only a 5-yard penalty, but a first down for the Bears. Oops! So they get a new chance to score, and even if they don't, they'll probably get an even easier field goal. In my head, I think, "Well, yeah, that defender is probably going to get his ass beat if the Bears get a TD, but if there's a turnover in the next three downs, they're going to pin a medal on him." Sure enough, third down, and the Bears throw an interception! The ball now belongs to the Seahawks, but more importantly, that scoring drive was stopped; Seahawks are still up by 3. Next play, and Hasselbeck throws an interception; ball goes back to the Bears. Two interceptions in two plays. Bears get it back somewhere in Seattle's high 30s. They fail to get a first down, and line up for a looong field goal attempt. The kick is...oops, delay of game on the offense. Penalty takes them out of field goal range, so now they have to punt. After a first half with no penalties at all, now three penalties (not to mention two turnovers) in less than ten plays have totally turned the momentum of this game around. Slightly later, Seahawks are unable to drive after the punt, and they themselves have to punt, basically out of their own end zone. Hester, who has been dropping punts all day, receives for the Bears and drops it, but then picks it up and returns the punt for a touchdown! Except he doesn't...penalty on the Bears, and they have to start the drive over with another penalty. What happened! The flags are flying like crazy now. Start OT: Well, exciting enough endgame, gotta say. Now on to overtime. Final: Maybe not the most exciting overtime ever, but a nice field goal to win it, anyway. Great effort, Seahawks, but great job, Bears!
Patriots/Chargers. Halftime - I guess I don't have a lot to say about this game. It's not exceptionally engaging, I guess, but it's not boring, either. Honestly, I think I'm sort of zoning out at this point. Probably all for the best that the season is coming to a close soon. ;) Mid-4th - Well, that was exciting. :) Pats down by 8 and decide to go for it on 4th and 5 on opponent's 40-something. Brady throws the pass...then gets intercepted! But then the ball is stripped and Pats recover. 1st down. (I wonder if that counts as a 4th down conversion. ;) ) The drive stays alive, and the Pats go on for a TD and a 2-point conversion, tying the game with 4 and change left to play. Plenty of time. ;) Final: Pats field goal goes unanswered. That's the game.
